With my 300GB hard disk too small I went shopping for a new 1 TB drive (for the first time in three years). Over the years I bought several Seagate / Lacie external Seagate / IBM (now Hitachi) internal hard drives. Some readers will certainly be faster and quieter than others, some are downright annoying, but you can not say that the specifications alone, I know why I rely on reviews. To my horror I discovered through my research that each brand / model of the disc received mediocre reviews. There was a clear decision not to meet. It seems that the reliability of computers has reached the level that the drive is the weak link in the system now increases. Since I was an existing external 300GB Seagate Firewire, I went with a 1 TB Seagate FreeAgent of. The boy was a big mistake. Users are very dissatisfied with the product and therefore I was: It seems that Seagate is not the FireWire drives to build compatibility If you need more mac firewire, avoid Seagate. Having a reliable backup disk is more important than ever that I crossed my fingers and went with G-Tech based on the feature set and my previous positive experiences with Hitachi drive mechanisms (self G-Tech). Per case: - eSATA/FW800/FW400/USB2 - every type of cable (a rarity now and a great value for money) - Large on / off button - metal robust - with no annoying fan - unit is mounted on the sled with a heat exchanger which protrudes from the bottom of the chassis for better cooling - hundreds of vents on the front and sides of the case - Power Combo / activity lights - Pro Mechanism attractive cases: - very quiet drive - fast 69MB / s read, 58 MB / s write ( well FW800 w / MacBook Pro 2007) - have not tested the eSATA - HFS +-formatted for immediate use on a Mac Pro: - none so far Some people have complained that the container is larger than the typical vertical design (5 "x 9 1 / 4 "x 1 3 / 4") are devices easier to find out there, so I guess it boils down to is the claim that the device is designed to sit flat on the table. I saw Seagate FreeAgent stands with their fragile forces you to making the cut on the desktop. WD case seems the best design for vertical adjustment does, but I do not think that is important as the other features that I am very pleased with the house (G-Tech: Do not change!). My advice to those who take issue with the size of it, get a G-Tech mini or other small base USB2 2.5 "drives. All 3.5" External tend to take place on the desktop either way. Summary: After purchasing this unit, I can never again buy a drive in a plastic housing. This is a solid unit against the flimsy deals on the shelves today. This product is a winner: quick, quiet, reliable and well thought out. An excellent value. PS. Imagine why companies such as WD and the two hot-filling already running in the same RAID enclosure without a fan is a mystery to me. G-Tech has a much better design for a RAID enclosure. 23 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Bad controller goes so get rid of it by Zino Davidoff, I can not recommend this drive. Despite the beautiful case design and build quality, the HD controller failed, making it impossible to work on my Adobe programs crash, crash the computer and the device stops responding. I work to have it replaced by the G-Tech. At least their customer service is to respond to your e-mail, and I have hope for 'new' design will be better. For now, I recommend buying another brand. UPDATE: They (finally) sent me a new disk enclosure with my "old" hard drive installed in it. The new works well, even if for some reason we Retrospect is inconsistent, it is always "busy" and unavailable. But I have used as a boot disk on a Powerbook and have been good. So the problem with the driver, who has been aware, can be a problem in the past. Still, I'm done with G-Tech, for now. I am.
