Thermaltake BlacX Duet eSATA USB Dual Hard Drives Docking Station ST0014U

Industry's most trusted hard drive docking station is now twice as convenient. BlacX Duet now offers two slots to turn any Serial ATA hard drives into external USB 2.0 or eSATA storage device in minutes. Moving large chunks of videos, musics or data files between hard drives will now happen in blazing speed (up to 3.0 Gbps for eSATA or 480Mbps for USB 2.0) instead of the slow network cable. The dock supports all 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch SATA hard disk drives up to 2 TB. Installation requires no screws or tools whatsoever. Simply pop your hard drive into the dock, plug it into your computer and you are set! Hot-swap support means you can use multiple hard drives with your computer without having to reboot. The dock also maximizes heat dissipation and exhaust to protect your device from damage and extend its life. Compatibility with both PCs and Macs makes the BlacX Duet adapt to multi platform environments.

The system has recognized the port multiplier without problems, two eSATA drive worked well out of the box. Tested with two 500G drives (a Seagate and WDC). Reading from a single disc offers a decent ~ 75 MB / s, while reading the two drives down the rate to 45 MB / s. A major problem, however: at idle, the units around ~ 47 degC. With ~ 1 hour of reading heavy, heats up to ~ 60 degC (with temperatures around ~ 20 degC). The design of this dock _all_ blocks airflow to the bottom of the unit, resulting in severe overheating. This makes it virtually useless for BlackX duplication discs, overheating will / will not be long before the duplication is complete. For example, I managed to copy ~ 150G 500G unit before reaching 60degC and stopped. It seems a big design flaw, plan to return 39 of 43 people found this review helpful. Want to buy the single disc version if the new choice of G. Morris I bought this mainly for the eSATA support soon, but was very disappointed to discover that my computer does not support because it has two eSATA port multiplier functionality. My computer is relatively new and it works equally well on Windows 7 Professional. Most people do not know if their computer has a port multiplier functionality until they buy an item like this one and try it. Dual USB drives good job, but you only get transfer rates of 400MB and 3GB is not made with eSATA. The player does not work with eSata, but is a bit 'flakey as well. What will happen at least 25% of the time when you restart your computer and you use the dock connected via an eSATA cable, the computer will lose sight of the dock and tell you that there is no eSata dock / drive connected. The only way to dock and drive again to detect the elimination of the bridge and the computer, then power on the dock, leave the unit starts in about 30 seconds, then power on the computer. Using the USB cable, this is done, so one can only assume eSATA connection between the port and the computer is flakey. Other than that I like the doll because it is relatively easy and simple to use on multiple computers, backup and data mirroring. 20 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Has problems on the Mac with a USB By Brian product works well if you only read the disc on a Mac. The problem comes when you try to write. The initiative will is corrupt and can not write. You get an error -50 when attempting a write operation. From the Finder, it's easy to see, but some programs do not handle error veery good and you think the file was updated when it is not. If you force eject the disc and go back, you can write to the disk, but after a while the error occurs 50 unit version works fine on the Mac, but not the double disc version. All 86 reviews ....
