Matheny This is one of those products that probably the opposite of most technology products. In this case, the average non-techie probably love - but people who know their way into computers confused. As with most products like this, I plan to just completely ignore the Pogoplug service and treat it as a docking station network. That would have been something I could really use. Unfortunately, it was a big problem to access this device without using the site or your Pogoplug desktop access software - and I'm not interested in using these methods. According to the complete manual available for download from Seagate, GoFlex may just be approached as a network device. The name of the network should be "fads" letters, followed by the MAC address. In my case, the name never showed up - so I went to my DHCP server to verify that the name was not recorded, and I could not find the IP address used by the network GoFlex through some experiments, but could not use to get access the device via Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer or Win7 (http I thought was a long shot, but I tried anyway). It is possible that other people will have better luck accessing it directly, but I could not get it to work in my environment. After giving up on direct, I gave in and turned on the network using the service GoFlex Pogoplug. Activation was easy, and after playing with the interface for a while ', I see that there is probably a specific group of users who will appreciate this device. It is easy to access data on the drive hooked via the web interface Pogoplug so you can get data from anywhere with an Internet connection. Overall, if you want a dock that works as a type of NAS device, you should avoid this if you just want a little 'memory that is available wherever you are, then it is probably a reasonable solution. 31 of 31 people found this review helpful. Device useless by Derek First, you must understand that this is not a network storage device is marketed. This is a multimedia storage device. It is well designed to make backups of your personal storage space and your personal information. The product uses Pogoplug manage the device. All configuration is done through the Internet via the Pogoplug website, not directly with the device. Therefore Pogoplug in some respects - has access to the data. It 'hard to get support because Pogoplug Seagate manages all software manages the hardware support. To make matters worse, the documentation, as mentioned by other people, is absolutely terrible. Very little information on the web or via the software itself in the review ... In order to use this device with Windows or Mac or Linux, you must install the software Pogoplug - this will create a "part Pogoplug" disk "P" for their team. This share is password protected. The problem comes if you have other computers or devices that can not install software on - such as devices from other media, to join the network. In addition, software packages do not know "share Pogoplug" including backup software window itself that comes with Windows Vista and Windows 7. Therefore, it is impossible to back up this drive with backup software of Windows 7. However, there is another way to access data. You can create one part of the CMA through Pogoplug website. You should know however that this method has no value. There is no username and no password. You basically that all data in the fully open Pogoplug Anyone on your network that has access to your network, even with a network cable, you can see, modify and destroy any of your data easily.
