A good choice by moving 1TB Snap Crackle and Pop UPDATE: A new generation of this unit, the 7200.12 version Bulk / OEM is available for a while and has better performance in terms of speed and power. So it's probably a better option. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Now this is state of the art Seagate 1 TB disk. It uses only three platters unit (the only thing that looks like a compact disc in the photo - there really is a pile of those within your hard drive!). Older 1TB drives use 4 or 5 platters. Fewer platters mean higher data density, which means faster data transfer. Fewer platters means lower temperatures, in general. The line 7200.11 333GB drives use platters. The new 7200.12 drives with 500 GB of food begin to be released - a record of a 500 GB drive is now available. A two 1TB drive tray should come out sometime in the next month or two. In fact, some notes on OEM / mass units: - OEM or higher means that it comes in a single package, no software, cables or screws If you are replacing a unit that can not be a problem. But if this is a new installation, you need a SATA data cable and (often) a power adapter. - As of 01/03/2009, Seagate dropped the guarantee of the original factory hard disks 5-3 years. No big deal for me because after 3 years I will not pay to return the car and put the unit 3 + years old, I updated model back on my machine anyway. The real question is, what is the reliability of the unit, so you do not need the warranty? It is very difficult to get a good response. Many people would say to buy a Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi or drive, and after that is a roll of dice. Certainly, making sure your fans are working and help clean the dust bunnies! 17 of 17 people found this review helpful. My last Seagate 750G lasted 0.9 years. Seagate Q1 That lasted three weeks. Bearie at Amazon Luv I'm in the IT industry and had installed, swaped, hundreds of disks formatted in my life, hard drive failure is normal and expected. What I have found is that MTBF publish that producers very little connection with reality, because reality is influenced by factors such as temperature, handling and so affected, what they publish, in a perfect lab environment - not what people usually have home. In my past I have Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital and Hitachi used. Seagate has always been high on my list because their reliability and their 5-year warranty. Personally, reliability is an important issue for me because I have tons of valuable pictures of my family & child takes, and I can not afford to lose them. That's why I always build RAID systems with different drives from different manufacturers and in some cases the same manufacturer, but with very different charges. After only 3 weeks, failed this drive. Since it was on a RAID system, no big deal. I switched to another device, and that Amazon My 750g second after a year of use. There are two Seagate failures within 30 days of the period - not a good impression so far. Let us compare the last Seagate with the latest technologies from Western Digital. My WD 1T Green has been running for months without any problems so far. It is by far the quietest drives I've had, certainly much quieter than any of the Seagate Barracuda. It is also the most vibration-free disks (Seagate is a little noisy) and run cold - heat shortens the life of all. The return policy is much more urgency WD free - you insert your credit card number and they will keep prices, and send a new unit right away until you return the defective one, where we will get back credit card charges. Compare this with the Seagate return to where they want to take out a fixed amount of the costs if you want to send a replacement, but still have the defective unit.
