Our company has recently made a technical update of just under 1000 computers. About half the new computers have this Western Digital hard drive, the other half have a Seagate Barracuda 160 GB SATA. Within a month the new computers to be distributed, we get an average of 3 weeks after a failed hard drives - all are the Western Digital WD1600AAJS 160 GB model #. The numbers seem too large to be expected "mortality rate" for the new hardware, you can expect from + / - 500 new computers. All errors were quickly replaced by the manufacturer because they are under warranty, but the amount of dead hard drives show regularly has made me very wary of this model. BTW, have no failed drives from Seagate, it was reported that so far 17 out of 18 customers found this review helpful. Cool, quiet and reliable! T. Thompson, the leading killer of hard drives is heat. If there is no air circulation around the disk, the disk risk of certain errors. That means I have two runs of 24 / 7 in a home theater PC in a RAID 0 array. They are quickly and quietly. They have been running continuously for over a year, and no hiccups. 160 is small compared to today's standards, but the beauty of this design is that the drive spins only one sentence. If you were to drive 320 GB or more, then you have multiple disks spinning inside the housing, which increases the heat and noise. 5 of 7 people found this review helpful. 3 replaced in 1 year. . Oseph S. Vetrano, Jr. I had three die within one calendar year. As a teacher I'm only on the Internet, word processing, PowerPoint and load some music here and there. Yes, hard disks were replaced under warranty by WD, but I spent $ 500 for PC repair and data recovery in 2007, WD will send a refurbished hard drive is not new. I will never buy WD again, and quality control department should be ashamed of themselves. I recommend Seagate. See all 28 customer reviews ....
