Chen, I bought this unit to put my 2x 500GB hard drives in an external enclosure with RAID 1 (mirror) configuration. When I received the package, he felt heavy - it was as if it was a case of very strong drive in the box that was robust from metal very much. The box was even equipped with clean text labels and packaging. Supported when opening the box, the contents were well packed in plastic bags and inside boxes. The installation of the readers were even a piece of cake. The screws of the housing are thick and sturdy. The two 3.5 "hard drives that I was perfect in the case. Once I was the DIP switch ** (later) set the casing in place. First, I tested the USB 2.0 connection, and properly recognized as a single mirror volumes. He then moved to an eSATA connectivity (with eSATA expansion panel is included in the package) The unit runs smoothly, with sustained transfer rates with the natural speed of the hard drives (50Mbps - 60Mbps speed reading). Pros: works perfectly. High speeds. Supports USB 2.0 and eSATA. Includes panel eSATA connector in the box. Rugged construction Cons: information about the RAID level configuration is incomplete. ** - The documentation showing the correct settings DIP switch to configure different levels of RAID. But, I tell you the proper way to create a new RAID level are: 1) setting of DIP switches (no drives installed) 2) Turn the unit up. 3) Hold the reset button for several seconds. 4) Release the reset button. 5) Power the unit down. 6) Install units. Fines for noisy environments by Neal Brown Advantages: Good external RAID box, good performance, solid construction, good build quality, good price Cons: Loud fan NEVER spin down, bright LEDs, annoying error message when you use a Mac to use with RAID 1 works fine with Macs, but gives you a "this disc is not compatible with your operating system and must be initialized" error ignored. Fans make it almost useless for HTPC video storage. I will probably at work and use it for offsite backup and replace it with a Synology NAS. 14 of 17 people found this review helpful. Good value for RAID 1 backup from Bard I. Bennett I bought this box for two 1.5 TB Hard Drive [Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, ST31500341AS] account. The goal was to create a fast, reliable RAID 1 array for backup storage on my Dell Inspiron 1537 laptop (with Vista Home Premium SP1) to create. A feature that was advertised was the eSATA connection, probably 5 to 6 times faster than USB. Since this was the first time to deal with a RAID 1 and / or eSATA does not know what to expect I had several false starts trying to get eSATA connection to work, but I thought I just had to be very patient (expected as long as 1 / 2 hour) to boot the system with the eSATA connection. Finally started and can transfer files from your computer to the unit and back. I performed the tests transferring files via USB and eSATA time, with the result that a 66 GByte file rate was only about 25 MBytes / sec with a connection. If you transfer multiple files (10 GB, with 10,000 entries), the speed is reduced to around 8 MBytes / sec. There is no advantage in using the eSATA connection. I was disappointed not to see a big speed advantage with eSATA, RAID 1, but does not work. Run the backup procedure of the system during the night, so I do not mind the delay.
